NORWOOD, MA - A Cambridge man wanted for the September 19, 2021 homicide of Shakim Lewis-Johnson in Norwood has been taken into custody in Miami, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.
Lewis-Johnson was a resident of the Boston neighborhood of Hyde Park.
"Ernest Payne, age 27, was taken into custody by the United States Marshal Service on Norfolk County warrants," Morrissey said. "A Norfolk County Grand Jury indicted Payne and Anthony Loper-Feaster, 26, of Salem, on December 29, 2021. Loper-Feaster has entered a plea of not guilty and is being held without bail."
Loper-Feaster was arrested October 18, 2021.
Morrissey said Norwood Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office have been "coordinating closely with regional and national law enforcement to locate and bring Mr. Payne into custody."
"Now begins the process of returning him to Massachusetts to begin proceedings in Norfolk Superior Court," Morrissey said. "The Norwood Police have been excellent partners in this investigation. I would like to personally thank Chief William Brooks and his department for their work. The Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section of the Massachusetts State Police and the Marshal Service have been invaluable partners."
The matter is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Hely with the assistance of Victim/Witness Advocate Jennifer Puleo Bishop.
The rendition process in Florida courts should begin as early as this week, but can take up to several weeks to result in his return to Massachusetts, Morrissey said.
