NOVATO, CA — Authorities have identified a driver who died in a solo-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Highway 101 in Novato.
Matthew Patrick Cossey, 35, of Cotati was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck north on Highway 101 south of Nave Drive when he lost control of the truck in the inclement weather around 5:40 a.m., according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.
The truck overturned on the right shoulder of the highway, ejecting Cossey, who was not wearing a seat belt, sheriff's officials said. He suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene.
A forensic postmortem exam and toxicology tests are scheduled for later this week, sheriff's officials said.
"The Marin County Sheriff's Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our best wishes and condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Cossey," said Chief Deputy Coroner Roger G. Fielding said in a statement.
