Press release from the Novato Unified School District: December 3, 2020 En español Hello VLA Middle School Families, VLA Middle School Parent Education Tobacco Use Prevention and Education Tonight: December 3rd 6:00- 7:30pm via Zoom Calling all VLA Families and students! NUSD has an active Tobacco Use Prevention and Education program (TUPE). NUSD staff and students work in collaboration to educate, prevent and stand up to the resurgence of the tobacco industry. Vaping is twice as addictive and accessible to our youth as cigarette smoking. We welcome parents and students to join our TUPE district coordinator Phoebe Smith for a Parent Education night on December 3, 6 – 7:30pm on zoom to learn more about vaping, tobacco and marijuana use among our youth. bit.ly/zoomwithphoebe VLA Middle School Weekly Schedule Changing as of January 4th, 2021 As previously communicated from the Superintendent on November 6, 2020, middle school schedules will be changing beginning on January 4, 2021, following the winter break. As communicated in previous VLA communication, our VLA schedule will need to match that of the Flexible In-Person middle school schedule in Novato. This is due to VLA sharing NUSD teachers who have both fully virtual classes as well as in person classes. Our VLA teachers also need to have the same work hours as their Flexible In-Person colleagues. The schedule is linked here. And can be viewed below. Attendance will continue to be required for all 5 days of school. Since all VLA students are virtual, there is no need to divide the classes into cohorts. The live (synchronous) learning per class period is highlighted in the yellow boxes. The green boxes are times designated for independent work (asynchronous) for the classes that aren't meeting live. Please note that this time may be extended at the end of the school day as well in order to complete assignments. Your child may take a break and eat lunch during these green times as well. The blue highlighted times are utilized to work in small groups or independent work for the classes that met live earlier in the day. If your child is asked to attend a small group or check in during this time, attendance is required. The teachers will notify their students who should be attending live meetings in the afternoons.
