BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport man was sentenced Monday to five years in prison for dealing heroin, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Ray Fontanez, 34, was sentenced to 60 months behind bars, followed by four years supervised release, the news release said. Fontanez was intercepted over a wiretap discussing theacquisition and distribution of heroin with Luis Martinez, according to the news release. Theconversations revealed that Fontanez was helping Martinez transition from selling cocaineand opioid pills to the sale of heroin, the news release said. Fontanez was arrested Jan. 15, 2019, according to the news release. On Dec. 20, 2019, hepleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, the news release said. Martinez, of Stratford, pleaded guilty to narcotics distribution and firearm offenses, and, on Jan. 26, 2021, was sentenced to 63 months in prison, according to the news release.
