SALT LAKE CITY, UT — A crane on a construction site fell onto State Street, near 200 South, injuring a rig operator, according to reports.
The crane collapsed around 9 p.m. Tuesday, while a subcontractor was working on foundation drilling, a spokeswoman for Jacobsen Construction told KSL-TV. The operator fell about 20 feet and was hospitalized with leg and shoulder pain, Salt Lake City Fire Capt. Shaun Mumedy told the TV station.
"Upon arrival, our crews did find the crane operator in serious condition and transported him to a local trauma facility," Mumedy told Gephardt Daily.
The crane, stretching about 80 to 100 feet, landed on two empty cars.
"All of the professionals who work on our sites are family, and their safety and wellbeing are our top priority. We are committed to learning as much about what caused this and taking proactive steps to ensure the continued safety at this project site," construction spokeswoman Amy Christensen said.
The cause of the crane collapse is under investigation.
