HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A 24-year-woman suffered injuries when the stalled pick-up truck she got out of began to roll backward, hitting her before it went down an embankment and crashed, according to police. On Monday at 2:11 p.m. Hackettstown Police were called to Grand Avenue near Robins Court where they reported finding a woman lying in the southbound lane of Grand Avenue. A police investigation found that Samantha Gardner, 24, of Hackettstown, was driving north on Grand Avenue in a Sierra pickup truck when her vehicle stalled. She then got out of the truck and began walking to the front of it. Police said that's when the truck started rolling backward. Gardner tried to jump back into the truck through the driver's side door and as the truck continued to roll backward, she was knocked to the ground by the open driver-side door and the front driver-side tire rolled over the top of her, according to the police report. The truck continued to roll backward coming to a stop down an embankment next to the driveway of 809 Grand Ave., the report said. Hackettstown First Aid & Rescue Squad and Saint Clare's Paramedics took Gardner to Hackettstown Medical Center. Atlantic Air 1 then flew Gardner to Morristown Medical Center. She suffered an abdominal injury, according to a police report. Get your local news! Subscribe to Patch.
