PHILADELPHIA — A woman from Richboro has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Philadelphia that happened earlier this month.
Police said Romualda Gulbiniene, 67, of Richboro, was arrested Friday, Dec. 20 in connection with the death of Yulia Sherman, 82.
Sherman was struck and killed by a vehicle while carrying groceries on the 11000 block of Bustleton Avenue at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Gulbiniene faces charges of accident involving death, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, and careless driving, police said.
She is being held after failing to post 10 percent of $100,000 bail, according to court records.
Gulbiniene has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 8, court documents show.
Sherman's son-in-law told 3CBS Philly that the grandmother immigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1978. She would go on to open two businesses over the years — a Russian grocery store named A&M Supermarket on Old Bustleton Avenue and Odessa's Restaurant near Bustleton Avenue and Red Lion Road, he told the station.
"She's an angel," Mark Ingerman told the station. "We will miss her and her grandkids will miss her."
Patch's Max Bennett contributed to this report.
