NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A Northampton man is under arrest after police say he beat and strangled a woman at his home over the weekend.
Russell Stephen Hempel, 22, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.
Police were called at 12:47 a.m. on Saturday. A woman told officers that Hempel had strangled her, thrown her to the ground and punched her in the face, injuring her right eye.
She said he attacked her during and argument at his home. She was able to escape and police say they found injuries consistent with her being strangled and punched in the face and neck.
After the woman's report, officers went to Hempel's home, on Old Mill Lane in the Holland section, where they interviewed him. During the interview, police said, officers noticed injuries on Hempel's hands.
He was arrested and sent to Bucks County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on bail of 10 percent of $200,000.
