DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A Georgia woman faces upgraded charges after police say she pushed an elderly woman in front of a car at an Atlanta hospital, ultimately leading to her death. Police say an argument prompted Gloria Franklin, 69, to push 78-year-old Jacqueline Mixon in the path of an oncoming car March 1 at the Collier Road parking deck for Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Mixon was taken inside the hospital for additional treatment, and paramedics arrived to provide medical care, as well. Franklin, of Powder Springs, was arrested and initially charged with aggravated battery, the AJC reported. She was released from the Fulton County jail on a $10,000 bond the next day. But Mixon died from her injuries Friday, prompting police to upgrade Franklin's charges on Monday, the AJC reported. Franklin was arrested again Monday and charged with voluntary manslaughter. She's being held in the Fulton County jail without bond, according to booking records. According to the AJC, the driver who hit Mixon stayed on scene and has not been charged. The driver's name has not been released, and police have not said what caused the argument between Mixon and Franklin.
