In 2019, the “Extradition Bill” which would have allowed the extradition of Hongkongers to China opened a Pandora’s box, turning Hong Kong into a battlefield against the Chinese authoritarian rule. The award-winning director of “Ten Years: Self Immolator,” Kiwi Chow, made this documentary to tell the story of the movement, both with a macro view of its historical context and up close and personal on the front lines. The 2019 movement is always labelled with the characteristics of “decentralized leadership”, “be water” (flexible tactics), “do not split” (unity but in different ways) and“blossoming everywhere” (protest all over the territory). The film covers seven teams of protesters with different stories which are put together as a comprehensive picture of the versatile movement. About the Venue Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum Founded in 1984 by a group of Dallas area Holocaust Survivors, the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum is dedicated to teaching the history of the Holocaust and advancing human rights to combat prejudice, hatred and indifference. Webpage: miiasoey.com IG: miiasoey Graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Fine Arts, Helen So Miiasoey loves working with ink, watercolors and acrylic in illustrations and paintings. Her background in curating art exhibitions and teaching children arts had a rather big influence in her creations throughout the years. Yet, it was the last year of teaching kids art had once again brought her back in questioning her rusty ways of thinking as an artist or simply as a human being. In her works or in the progress of her works, it is not hard to spot the play bouncing between the reality and her imagination. She is keen on turning confusions and questions in life into works that are masked with humor. This is probably why her works often offer a sense of sweetness with a twist of something bitter, dark and sharp. Recently, she has been creating artworks that speaks up for her hometown Hong Kong and against other injustices, in hopes to channeling some hope via her works. Currently she is based in New York.
