NEW LENOX, IL — A 6-month-old baby girl was brought in unresponsive to Silver Cross Hospital on Friday, leading to two arrests after a fight among family members, a hospital security guard and New Lenox Police, authorities said. The baby girl later died at the hospital. New Lenox Police Chief April DiSandro confirmed that an unresponsive baby was transferred to Silver Cross Hospital from Tinley Park. The baby was being watched by the mother's foster family. The mother of the baby was raised by two different foster families, DiSandro said, and one of the families was watching the baby when she was taken to the hospital. The other foster family heard the news about the baby's hospitalization and came to the Silver Cross Hospital Emergency Room around 8:30 p.m. Friday. DiSandro said eight people originally came to the hospital with the baby, and an additional 12 later came to the emergency room. The family members tried to get into the emergency room, but staff would not let them. An 18-year-old from Chicago went to get a tire iron to attempt to get into the emergency room and also threatened a security guard with it, police said. The 18-year-old was charged with aggravated battery after he fought the security guard, according to police, and a juvenile from Tinley Park was arrested after he fought a New Lenox officer. Both the security guard and the officer had minor injuries. WJOL first reported the incident and said the Department of Children and Family Services was involved with the care of the child. Tinley Park Police Department told Patch this is a pending investigation and would provide no other comment at this time. The Department of Children and Family Services said it is investigating the incident.
