NEWARK, CA — Coronavirus has put a halt to most in-person events this year, but Newark will celebrate its 65th birthday this month, and several events are planned for the weekend of September 19 - 20. Who wants to win $1,000? The Newark Chamber of Commerce reports that this year's celebration will include a Porch Parade, a virtual Newark Mile 4k Race, a Community Information Faire, a virtual car show, and coloring contest. Here's expanded information on the events from the Chamber: The PORCH PARADE will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 19th—20th. Register your house, apartment/condo, or business. To participate, decorate your porch, front yard, windows, etc. in a family-friendly manner to wish the City of Newark a HAPPY 65th BIRTHDAY! Judging will take place over Saturday and Sunday with over $1,000 worth of prizes awarded! Registration information is online. The annual NEWARK MILE 4K RACE will continue, but of course not in its traditional format. You can join the virtual race for FREE! Run a 4k (2.5 miles) on your own at any time on September 19th. The event will be livestreamed at 10 a.m. (the formal race start). The COMMUNITY INFORMATION FAIRE which supports many Non-Profit Organizations will be showcased on the "Newark Days" website. Learn about the many services and resources available to the community. The NEWARK DAYS CAR SHOW will be virtual and FREE! To participate, attach your favorite photo of your car or truck and send it to [email protected]. Your photo will be posted online, including links to the "Newark Days" website and Facebook page. Submit your photo soon! COLORING CONTEST for children ages 4 - 12 years old is open to all children in Alameda County. Picture for coloring will be in the newspapers and on the "Newark Days" website.
