BRADENTON, FL — The No. 2 women's golfer in the world, Nelly Korda, is being treated for a blood clot in her arm. The Bradenton native, who brought home a gold medal for Team USA at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in August, shared on social media that her arm began to swell on Friday when she was in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for a photoshoot and a commercial appearance. "After a typical morning workout, my arm started to feel like it was swelling," Korda wrote in an Instagram post. "At the advice of my doctor, I went to the Emergency Room as a precaution. I was diagnosed with a blood clot." She's currently getting treated at home "to eliminate further risks," she said. The 23-year-old golfer thanked her fans for their support and asked for privacy during her treatment. Korda entered the Tokyo Olympics ranked No. 1 in the world — a ranking she earned less than two months before the start of the competition. She's a six-time winner of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour, winning her first major at the Women's PGA Championship in June. Her last outing on a golf course was at the LPGA Drive On Championship in February following a six-week break from competition, according to the Olympics website. She was scheduled to compete in the JTBC Classic in Carlsbad, California, March 24-27, but with her blood clot, it's unknown when she'll play next, the Olympics said. Korda comes from an athletic family, according to her Olympics profile. Her older sister, Jessica Korda, 28, is also a professional golfer who represented Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics. Jessica ended the competition in 15th place and ranked No. 14 in the world going into the Olympics, according to the LPGA rankings. The Korda sisters' parents, Petr Korda and Regina Kordova, were professional tennis players. Their father, Petr, won the Australian Open singles title in 1998. Their mother, Kordova, represented Czechoslovakia at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Her younger brother, Sebastian Korda, is also a professional tennis player. He reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.
