Description
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — For the second time in as many weeks, police nabbed suspected car thieves at the Home Depot in New Rochelle.
On Saturday, at about noon, New Rochelle police were alerted by law enforcement partners that a stolen car had entered the city from I-95. Patrol officers found the stolen car, a white Dodge Caravan, driven by a single suspect in the Home Depot parking lot.
As the officers approached the van, the driver began reversing out of a parking space.
The police tried to stop the van but the driver kept reversing and collided with a police car before fleeing towards the nearby Costco on Industrial Lane. After a brief police chase, officers found that the driver abandoned the van and was attempting to flee on foot.
Police soon found their suspect, a 15-year-old boy, hiding in the bushes behind the Costco.
The teen, who is not being identified because of his age, was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property. He was later released to the custody of his grandmother.
