Description
OLYMPIA, WA — Washington is one of America's more self-sufficient states, according to a recent study ranking the states and their residents by how dependent they are on federal subsidies.
WalletHub's study, 2022's Most & Least Federally Dependent States, found that Washington was actually the fifth least federally dependent state after Utah, Kansas, New Jersey, and Delaware. Washington performed well because both its people and its government took less from the federal government than others: residents didn't garner much in return taxes, and federal funding didn't make up an overbearing portion of state revenue.
