I-476 Reopens In Lower Merion After Chemical Spill On Roadway

LOWER MERION, PA — Traffic was limited to one lane Friday morning on I-467 in Lower Merion after a tractor trailer spilled hazardous materials on the roadway. A Montgomery County Department of Public Safety supervisor told Patch the incident was reported around 4:30 a.m. Friday as a tractor trailer on fire. In a Facebook post, the Lower Merion Fire Department said the incident was later classified as a HazMat scene when first responders noted the trailer was leaking Sodium Hypochlorite. The DPS spokesperson told Patch the incident was turned over to PennDOT around 11:15 and later to The Lewis Group, a company dealing with environmental challenges, for cleanup. No injuries were reported. Lower Merion Fire Department said George Clay Fire Company - Station 39, Narberth Ambulance, the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety's HazMat Team and The Lewis Group assisted in cleaning up the situation. The roadway has since reopened.
