Garden City Community Comes Together For Hoops For Hope

GARDEN CITY, NY — The energy was through the roof of the Garden City High School gym on March 9 as the community came together for the annual Hoops for Hope event. The event raises money for the I'm Not Done Yet Foundation, which exists in memory of Garden City High School graduate Bobby Menges, who lost his life to cancer. The original event was organized by former GCHS student Tim O'Hanlon, who wanted to draw a bigger crowd to the school's Challenger Team basketball games. He thought pairing one Challenger Team game with a fundraiser would bring in more fans for the Challenger student-athletes, while benefiting a good cause. This year's event was organized by his brother, Michael O'Hanlon, who is a current student. The Challenger Team faced Lynbrook for this year's event. Hundreds were in attendance as they watched the team take the court and raised money for the I'm Not Done Yet Foundation and the NYU Langone Cancer Center for Kids in Mineola. Attendees participated in raffles and bought baked goods through a sale organized by the school's Miracle Club. In addition, Garden City's cheerleading and kickline teams took half court for performances.
