NEW CASSEL, NY — A New Cassel man was arrested Monday night after Nassau County police say he mugged a teen on the street.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call at 10:09 p.m. from a 15-year-old boy. The teen told police he was approached by a man while standing on Hopper Street, and the man took his cash and fled the scene.
Police located the man — Stephan Maddox, 30, of New Cassel — a few blocks away on Prospect Avenue. Police say he was arrested without incident. During a search, police say officers found a clear glass pipe containing the residue of what is believed to be crack cocaine on Maddox.
Maddox is charged with third-degree robbery, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. Police say he was in violation of a parole warrant for criminal mischief. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead.
