NORRISTOWN, PA — On Tuesday, the Norristown Municipal Council approved contracts for a large-scale renovation of the municipal building. The $13 million project aims to replace the building's aging electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, expand the building's square footage and convert an attic to an office space. In a resolution on Tuesday, the council approved an $8.84 million contract with Gordon H. Baver for general construction; a $536,750 contract with Integrity Mechanical for plumbing; a $1.58 million contract with Myco Mechanical for mechanical work; and a $1.72 million contract with Cedar Electric for electrical work. Last month, the council approved 18-month lease agreements so non-police operations can be relocated to the Logan Commerce Center during renovations. The municipality said rent will cost $12,928 a month. Renovation discussions have been underway since the mid-2010s and were recently exacerbated by several floods caused by burst pipes in the fall of 2019, the municipality said. The council unanimously approved a final design plan for the renovation in November 2019. Renovations are expected to start next year and take about 30 months.
