Here are the top stories in Denver today: This is a statistic that few in Denver want to talk about: Denver has the highest recorded number of homicides in 2021, the highest since 1981, and the highest per capita since 2004. Getting to the why is the hard part, and there's bound to be lots of finger pointing. (US News) One more vote and Aurora will ban urban camping. Much like Denver's camping ban, which hasn't actually stopped urban camping, Aurora's city council moves one vote closer to essentially make homelessness illegal. (7News)Denver teachers overwhelmingly support proposed school autonomy limits. The majority of DPS teachers surveyed by the school board support a proposal to limit some of schools' autonomy and bolster job protections for teachers. (Patch) Drug Dealer busted with 10,000 fentanyl pills and 179 lbs. of meth. Denver Police found 179 pounds of methamphetamines, 43 pounds of cocaine, 7 pounds of heroin and 7 pounds of crack, along with multiple firearms.
