Gunfire Knocks Out Power to Apartment, Residents Left Freezing

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Numerous people went without heat this past weekend after gunfire knocked out the power supply that feeds Parkway Apartments in Temple Hills. The building is located next to an elementary school. Pepco confirmed to 7News that the apartment-owned equipment was damaged, but did not say how. Michael Miltenberger told 7News that he had to sit in his car and burn gas just to have heat. He and the other residents went without electricity all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Miltenberger had just bought $250 in groceries and now has to throw everything away. "All the food is gone," Miltenberger said. "There's no food in the house. I'm struggling right now." Another resident told 7News that his mom, who is bed-bound, needed electricity to run her oxygen machine but couldn't leave. "It's cold," he said. "She's freezing. It's very frustrating." This wasn't the first shooting at Parkway Apartments, residents say. There's glass blown out of the doors and bullet holes in the hallway, 7News reported. Electricity was restored to the building by Sunday 4 p.m. "I feel like If you all [7News] didn't come we'd still be without it," Miltenberger said. "And that's sad."
