TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Point Pleasant man has pleaded guilty in two robberies in 2021 where he assaulted his victims, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday. William A. McMenamin, 29, pleaded guilty before Ocean County Superior Court Judge Lisa A. Puglisi to two counts of robbery and aggravated assault in incidents in Toms River on April 28 and in Lacey on Oct. 8, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. McMenamin is scheduled to be sentenced May 6, and the state will be seeking a sentence of 5 years in prison subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act, Billhimer said. In the April 28 incident, McMenamin beat up a 19-year-old man and stole his back pack during what was reported to police as a fight in the area of Main Street and Route 37, the prosecutor's office said. The victim was treated at Community Medical Center for his injuries. McMenamin was arrested in that incident and taken to the Ocean County Jail but later released under New Jersey Bail Reform rules, Billhimer said. In the Oct. 8 incident, McMenamin attacked and robbed a person who was staying at the Lacey Inn on Route 9. McMenamin had been staying at the motel at the same time, the prosecutor's office said. McMenamin was arrested Oct. 8 and has been in the Ocean County Jail since then, the prosecutor's office said. Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Michael Abatemarco is handling the matters on behalf of the State. The Toms River and Lacey Township police departments investigated.
