BALTIMORE, MD — A Marland woman has died following a house fire in Baltimore on Monday morning.
Shortly before 9 a.m., the Baltimore City Fire Department said it responded to a house fire in the 4000 block of Garrison Boulevard. When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke coming from a two-story occupied home.
As firefighters entered the Northwest Baltimore home, heavy fire could be seen from the first floor, authorities said.
While conducting their primary search, fire officials said they located an unconscious woman near a window on the second floor. She was immediately pulled out of the home, where firefighters performed CPR before transporting her to the hospital in full cardiac arrest.
The fire department said the woman was ultimately pronounced dead hours after being transported to the hospital.
Fire officials said the woman was 85-years-old. Her identity has yet to be released.
While on scene, authorities said rescue crews also transported a firefighter to the hospital after suffering minor injuries.
The cause of the fire was accidental and a result of an overheated power strip, the Baltimore City Fire Department said.
The woman's official cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner's Office.
