NORRISTOWN, PA — A 29-year-old Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 3 slaying of a Norristown man. The victim, 34-year-old Jerry White, was shot several times in broad daylight in the 500 block of West Marshall Street on the afternoon of Nov. 3. An autopsy concluded he died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his manner of death was ruled as homicide by the county's coroner. In an investigation, authorities found security camera footage showing a single man approach the victim and fire a black semi-automatic pistol several times. The man, authorities said, had a distinctive tattoo on his left hand and walked with an unusual gait. He was seen wearing a black Nike hoodie. The shooting suspect was identified as Gerard Gethers, who was previously convicted of robbery in 2009 and not legally allowed to possess a gun. Gerard Gethers (Montgomery County District Attorney) Gethers was arraigned in Montgomery County court on Tuesday on charges of first degree murder, third degree murder, person not to possess a firearm, possessing an instrument of a crime and reckless endangerment. The suspect is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. He is set to attend a preliminary hearing on Dec. 10.
