Press release from the Chamber Collaborative of Greater Portsmouth: December 15, 2020 PORTSMOUTH—This school year to ensure the safety of participants, our competitions will be rolled out in a virtual format. It is the perfect time to get involved as a new judge. Competitions will be occurring during the month of March 2021. SkillsUSA NH is a State Chapter of SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Traditionally, SkillsUSA NH hosts competitions at schools, colleges and industry locations around the state in areas that test student skills and abilities in career and technical education (CTE) programs delivered at high schools and community colleges across NH. We need you! How can I help as a virtual judge this year? -Be willing to volunteer your time to judge a skills or leadership competition. Platforms and timelines may vary by contest area. Some will be judged live online via the Zoom platform (need hi-speed internet access) Interview Skills, for example. Others will consist of scoring written assessments submitted via Google, automotive technology written exam for example. Finally, some competition judging may consist of reviewing student skills competition videos to assess their outcomes. -Use a provided rubric or set of judging criteria -Work closely with a contest chair on the logistics needed to run the virtual competition in your industry area of expertise Next steps if I'm interested? -Fill out this short volunteer form indicating your contact info, availability and interest area. -Email Executive Director Josh Brunk, with any questions at [email protected].
