NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville officials are considering putting a mandatory face mask ordinance into place, according to Chicago Tribune. Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico shared the news at a virtual town hall meeting about coronavirus Monday. The news comes as coronavirus numbers surge throughout DuPage and Will counties, leading to a ban on indoor dining and other restrictions. As of press time, Naperville has had more than 2,700 coronavirus cases since March, according to the DuPage County Health Department. DuPage County Coronavirus Update: 732 New Cases In 24 Hours At press time, Edward Hospital is treating 91 inpatients with coronavirus, according to hospital spokesperson Keith Hartenberger. Those numbers are well above theprevious highest inpatient numbers, which were recorded in April. Chicago Tribune reports that Chirico said of a possible mask ordinance at the meeting, "It's somewhat heavy handed, I think people would say, and it wouldn't be without many, many critics. But if it were successful in its goal of trying to get everybody to comply, then it's something that I think would be worth it."
