Plainfield police and fire crews responded to the crash, which happened near Route 126, around 12:11 p.m. The preliminary investigation shows the Dodge Challenger was driving north on Essington Road when his car veered into oncoming traffic and was hit by a Peterbilt semi-truck hauling a loaded gravel trailer, police told Patch.

When the crash occurred, the driver of the muscle car had just passed Route 126, and the semi was coming from Pilcher Road. This stretch of Essington Road is being cleaned up, as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, and remains blocked off to traffic.
The Route 126 exit ramp off southbound I-55 was temporarily closed to traffic but reopened around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
