LAGUNA HILLS, CA — Packaged salads sold at Trader Joe's locations in California and four other states are being recalled because there may be pieces of hard plastic in the dressing packet. Trader Joe's said online Thursday the manufacturer of its "Crunchy Slaw With Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing" said that the dressing could contain bits of hard plastic. The federal Food and Drug Administration's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert Thursday. The alert provided images of the affected product's label. Anyone who purchased the salad was urged either to throw it out or return it to the store for a full refund. Affected items contained the establishment number P-6247 inside the USDA mark of inspection and had use-by dates from March 9 to 12. The salads were sold only in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah, Trader Joe's said. Trader Joe's and the USDA added that no injuries were reported from the products and all potentially affected products had been removed from sale. Consumers can direct questions to Trader Joe's at 626-599-3817 on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PDT or send a message through the company's website. Consumers can also contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or chat live at Ask USDA from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT.
