ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police are planning to step traffic enforcement this week. The police department, which received a state grant for more enforcement, has assigned extra officers this week, noting St. Patrick's Day is Thursday. The majority of extra enforcement is during the overnight hours, which is considered the most dangerous time to be on the road, according to a police news release. Police said they aim to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes through more enforcement of DUI, seatbelt and distracted driving laws.
