WILLOWBROOK, IL – A 15-year-old youth who held up a woman at gunpoint last year outside of Target in Willowbrook was sentenced Monday to an indeterminate amount of time behind bars until his 21st birthday, prosecutors said.
Last month, the Cook County boy pleaded guilty to armed robbery.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Oct. 13, the juvenile pointed a gun at the woman as she was unloading items into her car, saying, "Give me the (expletive) keys" and "look at the gun," according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. He repeatedly demanded the woman's keys.
After giving the keys, she ran into Target and called 911. Police learned the youth entered the car, but was unable to drive away. The investigation led police to a nearby hotel, where the juvenile was taken into custody without any problems within an hour, prosecutors said.
At the time of his arrest, the boy had multiple pending forcible felony cases in Cook County and one in Will County, police said. He has remained in custody since his arrest.
"The extremely quick apprehension and successful prosecution of the juvenile charged in this case sends the message that in DuPage County, we will not tolerate this type of violent behavior, regardless of the defendant's age," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.
