Election Filing Deadline Passes: Arlington Heights Residents Run

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The primary election in Illinois is just over three months away, and there will be some local options at the ballot box. The deadline for candidates to file for their intent to run with the Illinois State Board of Elections was Monday. Illinois' primary election is June 28. Illinois 9th Congressional District John Ellerson, of Arlington Heights, is running on the Republican side. He will face Maxwell "Max" Rice, of Northbrook, in the primary. On the Democratic side, incumbent Jan Schakowsky, of Evanston, will face a primary challenge from Andrew Heldut, of Chicago. Ellerson also ran in 2018. Schakowsky has held the position since 2012. Illinois State Senate District 27 Democratic incumbent Ann Gillespie, of Arlington Heights, will not face a challenge in the primary. On the Republican side, Joshua Alvarado, of Rolling Meadows, and Bill Robertson, of Palatine, will face off. Gillespie was elected to the position in 2018. Illinois House of Representatives District 53 Democratic incumbent Mark Walker, of Arlington Heights, and Republican challenger Jack Vrett, also of Arlington Heights, will not face any challengers in the primary. Walker was elected to the seat in 2018. Illinois House of Representatives District 54 The seat is up for grabs as Republican incumbent Tom Morrison, of Palatine, has opted not to run for reelection. With no primary opponents, Arlington Heights residents Michelle Hunter (Republican) and Mary Beth Canty (Democrat) will face off in the general election.
