Free Vaccine And Microchip Clinic For Pets Set For March 26

TUCSON, AZ — A free vaccine and microchip clinic hosted by Pima Animal Care Center is set for March 26 at Kino Sports Complex, 2500 E. Ajo Way. The clinic will run from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. or until 400 pets have been served, according to a news release from Pima County. "We know how tough it can be to get an appointment with your vet right now," said Director of Animal Services, Monica Dangler in the release. "We are trying to ease the burden for pet owners and vet clinics as they also deal with a national shortage on veterinarians and vet techs. PACC is happy to help bridge the gap through events like these." The clinic will operate on a first-come, first served basis, so pet owners should expect to wait in line and are advised bring water for themselves and their pets. Dogs should be on leashes and cats should be in carriers. The clinic will offer: A brief exam by a veterinarianFeline Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia vaccines for cats Canine Distemper, Parvo, Parainfluenza, Adenovirus vaccines for dogs Rabies vaccines for both cats and dogsDeworming for pets younger than six months oldMicrochipping The parvo and distemper viruses in dogs, the panleukopenia and calici viruses in cats and the rabies virus, which can infect dogs, cats and people, are all deadly diseases that are preventable with pet vaccination, the county said. Many parts of the country have eradicated these infectious diseases through pet vaccination."Pima County has very high levels of preventable infectious disease due to low vaccination rates," Dr. Jennifer Wilcox, director of veterinary services, said in the news release. "It's heartbreaking trying to pull puppies and kittens, and even adult dogs and cats, through these infections. Our contagious disease wards overflow with sick pets coming in from the public every day."
