TUCSON, AZ — A 17-year-old boy was suspected of repeatedly stabbing a Pima County Sheriff's Deputy with scissors before another deputy shot the teen to death on Saturday, the Pima County Regional Critical Incident Team said in a news release. The teen, Zakareya Ibrahim, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 3900 block of South Rocky Peak Court. The deputy that Ibrahim was suspected of stabbing was Eduardo Toral, who has been with the Pima County Sheriff's Department for one year. Toral was taken to a local hospital for severe injuries to his spinal cord, face and shoulder, according to police. Ibrahim is suspected of calling 911 around 6:30 p.m. Saturday and making death threats against sheriff's deputies, police said. When the first deputy on scene arrived at Ibrahim's location on Rocky Peak Court around 6:50 p.m., Saturday police said that Ibrahim threw a rock at the patrol car. Ibrahim was then suspected of walking up to the patrol car and attacking the deputy through the open driver's side door, stabbing the deputy several times, police said. The Pima County Regional Critical Incident Team is handling the criminal investigation of the shooting. The team includes investigators from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Tucson Police Department, Oro Valley Police Department, Marana Police Department, Pasqua Yaqui Police Department, Sahuarita Police Department, University of Arizona Police Department, Pima Community College Police Department and South Tucson Police Department. The purpose of the team is to ensure that local law enforcement organizations involved in shootings are not responsible for investigating themselves. The Tucson Police Department is taking the lead on the investigation.
