Description

Two women from Arizona have been nominated for the prestigious Television Academy Foundation's 41st College Television Awards. The College Television Awards recognizes and rewards excellence in student-produced programs from colleges and universities nationwide. Winners in the competition will be announced by television stars on March 26. Alexandra Jones of Scottsdale, AZ, and Amy Hauck Wilson of Glendale, AZ, have been nominated, along with two of their classmates, for writing and producing "Asking For It", a public service announcement about female sexual assault, they created while attending Brigham Young University in Utah. "Asking For It" is a one-minute, spec PSA for RAINN, (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization, and is nominated in the 'Commercial, PSA or Promo' category for the 2022 awards. "I was moved after reading Chanel Miller's memoir, 'Know My Name'," said Jones. "As one of the writers of 'Asking For It' I knew this was something we wanted to talk about. I wanted survivors to know that it wasn't their fault. No one would ask for what happened to them and there is such a negative stigma with assault. This piece is for those who choose to tell their story, and those whom we believe, because they were brave enough to come forward." "Most women have a perpetual fear of being assaulted from a young age," said Wilson. "In efforts to disprove the belief that a sexual assault survivor could have, in any way, 'asked for it', this PSA communicates that many women put significant energy into avoiding such an attack, yet 1-in-3 will still experience an assault in their lifetime." "I feel honored to have work that I am so proud of recognized by the Television Academy Foundation," said Wilson. The 41st College Television Awards will be streamed globally at TelevisionAcademy.com/CTA on Saturday, March 26, at 6:00 PM PDT, 9:00 PM EDT. The virtual awards show will feature celebrity presenters including Dove Cameron (Schmigadoon!), Rick Glassman (As We See It), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), Sam Heughan (Outlander), Jordan L. Jones (Bel-Air), Rose McIver (Ghosts), Sue Ann Pien (As We See It), Danielle Pinnock (Ghosts), Logan Shroyer (This Is Us) and Hannah Zeile (This Is Us). A total of 54 students have been nominated in 6 categories for the 2022 awards selected from 185 entries submitted from 58 colleges nationwide. Designed to emulate the Emmy Awards, student entries are judged by Television Academy members. Criteria for the College Television Awards reflect industry standards of excellence, imagination and innovation. The awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Foundation's College Television Summit, a three-day, educational event featuring panel discussions with media-industry leaders. The Summit is made available virtually and free of charge to college media arts students nationwide March 23-25.
