Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today: According to a new report from Car Insurance Comparison, Arizona has some of the worst drivers in the United States. The state ranked eighth-worst in the country for its bad drivers, based on its rates of careless driving and its death rates. The report analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and found that Arizona ranked poorly for its pedestrian death rate, its cyclist death rate, and its overall car accident death rate. (Phoenix Patch)If you're a Phoenix tenant whose rent has gone up lately, you're not alone. A growing number of local landlords have raised rents, causing concerns among renters about affordability and where they'll be able to live. AZ Central reported that Phoenix-area rents increased nearly 30 percent, in 2021, more than double the overall U.S. increase. Early projections for 2022 indicate rents may go up almost another 20 percent in 2022, an issue that is compounded by the current housing shortage in the area. Although new apartment complexes are being built across metro Phoenix, most of these high-end rentals will be difficult for tenants who make the region's median income or less. (The Arizona Republic)Phoenix police are asking for the public's help in finding Gabrielle Mason, a 27-year-old woman who recently moved to the Valley and has been out of contact with her family and friends since Mar. 6. Mason, who drives a 2004 Honda Pilot with Illinois plates, is described as 5'7" with brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen near North 44th Street and East Belleview Street, according to police. Anyone with information about Mason's whereabouts should contact the Phoenix Police Department Missing Persons Unit at (602) 534-2121 or email [email protected].
