NEWTOWN, PA — The Council Rock School Board plans to discuss a timeline for a return to five-day, in-person learning during its meeting Thursday. Students in the Council Rock School District who opted for hybrid learning —a mix of virtual at-home instruction and in-school education — returned to school Tuesday for the first time since March, when schools were shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. In July, the school board approved a modified instruction plan that has students spending part of the week learning at home and the rest of the week in school, but four board members voted against the proposal, calling for five-day in-person learning at the elementary level. The Bucks County Department of Health reported no new coronavirus deaths in last week, and recent data released by the state shows that Pennsylvania has seen an overall decline in five of the six coronavirus metrics, including incidence rates and hospitalizations. County Health Director Dr. David Damsker said the news is encouraging but is urging people to limit transmissions to senior citizens and others with high-risk medical conditions. The Council Rock School Board meets at 7 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 1. You can watch the meeting live on the district's YouTube channel.
