Description
I'm looking for someone to install a hitch onto my '22 Kia Niro EV. The hitch requires some modifications so I can't do it myself. It will be the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # C13329 ( ). The modifications needed are the cutting of holes into the actual hitch. The person who installed this same hitch in my same vehicle gave me this advice: "I used a drill for the holes, took measure, drill, try, re-do. The easier route is to grind off two bolts sticking out from the car (that align the plastic aeroguard) but I left those bolts and drilled two holes in the hitch for those, along with moving the other holes as necessary."
By going this route of modifying the hitch, this avoids the need to cut into the car bumper cover, which I prefer since my car is a lease. Just the back aeroguard piece will need to be left out, which is held on by pop-rivets and a couple nuts. Accessing requires just popping up the center of the plastic rivet with a screwdriver or similar and then it comes out.
I've reached out to local hitch install places and I'm not getting a straight answer on if they can do the install this way without having to cut into the bumper. So that's why I'm taking this to craigslist.
So if this is an install you can do, please let me know. And also if whether you can do it where I live in Burtonsville, or if you have a working location I can bring it to you.
I would also prefer someone who would be willing to remove the hitch before I return the lease (so that I can potentially use it in my next car) if I get another Niro.
Here are some pics from someone who did this install already:
