https://gofund.me/dd01340d Some friends of ours in Downtown Wilson called me yesterday with awful news. Their home caught fire downstairs, and it wiped out the entire bottom floor. Luckily the family and pets could get out of the house before anyone was hurt, but half of their entire life was on the first floor of their home. After local firefighters controlled the fire, a disaster remained. Inches of water on the floor, fire foam covering everything. Family money, personal belongings and more were all kept on the bottom floor and are melted or burned to ashes. April and Jay Bradford have become good friends to many in our community. The Bradford family is a well-known local family that runs a Home Improvement business, doing landscaping, home repair and even automotive work for families from Wilson, NC to Durham, NC and beyond. The Bradfords do our yard work during the summer and have helped with several projects in the older house we live for well below any other quoted prices. They are capable of doing the construction and rebuilding themselves, but the costs of rebuilding are something none of us could ever prepare for. Our main concern to start is getting the bottom floor dry, so they can get the utilities turned on and move back into the upstairs while working on the bottom floor as money comes in. The Bradfords have children, including one small child, and are currently forced to stay in a hotel, as the home is not livable in any way until the smoke and chemicals in the air are gone, and mold is prevented from starting to grow and make the house unsalvagable.
