Join us on our Unicorn Stage as we welcome writers Eleanor Whitney, Raechel Anne Jolie, and Melissa Faliveno for readings from their respective books and a conversation moderated by Noah Demland. Doors - 7:30pm. Event starts - 8pm. Eleanor C. Whitney is a writer, editor, marketer, and community builder who hails from Maine and divides her time between Brooklyn and the Mojave desert. She is the author of Riot Woman and Quit Your Day Job. She is currently pursuing her MFA in creative nonfiction at CUNY Queens College. Raechel Anne Jolie (she/they) is the author of the critically-acclaimed memoir Rust Belt Femme, which was the winner of the Independent Publisher Book Award in LGBTQ Nonfiction, an NPR Favorite Book of 2020, and a runner-up for the Heartland Bookseller’s Award. Jolie’s work explores capitalism, identity, Left social movements, pop culture, and more. Their essays, criticism, and reporting have appeared in The Baffler, Bitch Magazine, In These Times, Ravishly, Mask Magazine, Teen Vogue, Scarleteen, among others. They hold a PhD from the University of Minnesota and an MA and BA from DePaul University. She lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio on Erie and Mississauga land. Melissa Faliveno is the author of the debut essay collection TOMBOYLAND, which was named a Best Book of 2020 by NPR, New York Public Library, Oprah Magazine, and Electric Literature, and received a 2021 award for outstanding literary achievement from the Wisconsin Library Association. Her work has appeared in Esquire, Paris Review, Bitch, Ms. Magazine, Lit Hub, Brooklyn Rail, and Prairie Schooner, among others; received a notable selection in Best American Essays; and will be included in the anthology Sex and the Single Woman: 24 Writers Reimagine Helen Gurley Brown’s Cult Classic for a New Era, forthcoming from Harper Perennial in May 2022. The former senior editor of Poets & Writers Magazine, she has taught creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College, Catapult in New York City, and was the 2020-21 Kenan Visiting Writer at University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Kenyon College. www.melissafaliveno.com Noah Demland is a classically trained percussionist as well as a writer, queer zine veteran, educator, and Ohio State alum. Informed by his musical background that spans drumming in punk bands to playing tympani in orchestras overseas, his work is rooted in the cracks between rock and classical, noisy and nuanced, fierce and formal, scrappy and sentimental.
