Sinkhole Near Murrieta Town Center Shuts Down Street

MURRIETA, CA — A large sinkhole forced the closure of Alta Murrieta Drive in Murrieta Saturday afternoon, officials said. The sinkhole, in front of the Murrieta Town Center, closed down Alta Murrieta between Rockcrest Drive and Murrieta Hot Springs Road. It is in the same location as a previous sinkhole that opened up in February 2019, which took several days to repair. Traffic is being re-routed and authorities asked the public to avoid the area, with no timetable for when the roadway would be reopened. Alta Murrieta is closed in both directions and traffic is being re-routed, due to the reappearance of a large sink hole in front of the Town Center Shopping Center, south of Rockcrest and north of Murrieta Hot Springs.
