HOMELAND, CA — A man who was walking across state Route 74 in Homeland just after midnight died from injuries after he was struck by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The 35-year-old Hemet man was crossing mid-block, east of Sultanas Road, at 12:05 a.m. Friday when he was struck in the #1 lane by a 2014 Chevy Cruze driven by a 19-year-old Hemet woman, according to the CHP's preliminary report.
The man was not in a crosswalk and there were no street lights in the area, the CHP said.
The man died at the scene.
The woman was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and she was not arrested, according to the CHP.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
