MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Valley Unified School District plans to start the 2020-21 academic school year Aug. 12, but parents have a say in how student learning will take place amid coronavirus concerns. Traditional instruction in a classroom setting; "blending learning," which combines online learning with some in-school instruction; and full-time online learning are the instructional models being considered in the MVUSD. The district asked parents and guardians to indicate their main learning preference via an online survey. "Health officials have reiterated, COVID-19 is not going away anytime soon, and we are developing several models of learning that are adaptable and adhere to health standards and social distancing protocols, as required. As more guidance is provided to districts across California, we commit to providing specific information on what the reopening of schools will look like in August," the district said. The learning options would reinstate classroom grades and accountability measures. While Aug. 12 is the planned fall start date in the MVUSD, health orders could derail it. Currently, K-12 schools are ordered closed through June 19 under Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser.
