Description
Emory & Henry College's Take Back the Night + Clothesline Project Event Emory & Henry College's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Office of E&H CARES are happy to announce that they will be hosting a Take Back the Night + Clothesline Project Awareness Campaign on Tuesday, March 22nd at 6:30 pm in the Board of Visitors Room in the Van Dyke Dining Hall and outside of the Van Dyke Dining Hall. The event will have a guest speaker from Abuse Alternatives Inc, a "Speak Out" session, vigil, and a march in which those who chose may hang their Clothesline Project shirt. Students, faculty, and staff may pick up shirts and craft materials to create their shirt privately on their own time from the McPherson Center and the Inclusion and Dialogue Center. Shirts can be created for survivors of violence, family and friends whom have lost a loved one to violence, and allies of survivors. Shirt crafting sessions will be held at the McPherson Center with E&H CARES Coordinator and nationally credentialed victim advocate, Carly Gaskins, on Tuesday the 15th, Wednesday the 16th, and Thursday the 17th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. These sessions will be for those who choose to create their shirts in a supportive group setting. Those who wish to remain anonymous may drop their shirt off to Carly Gaskins in the McPherson Center, Room 303, for Gaskins to hang up prior to, or during, the hanging and march event on their behalf. A board in which people can anonymously write about their experiences or emotions associated with surviving violence, losing a loved one to violence, or supporting survivors of violence will be put out at Van Dyke Dining Hall for those who wish to share. It will have the Take Back the Night Foundation's Awareness slogan, "Shatter the Silence." This board will be present during the event and "Speak Out" session. Please contact Carly Gaskins, [email protected], or Emily Bishop, [email protected], if you have any questions or concerns regarding this event.
