Description

Hosted by Missouri Invasive Plant Council, Forest ReLeaf, and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Cut down an invasive Callery pear tree, get an ecologically beneficial tree in exchange! When you register, select only one tree. We are excited by the enthusiastic response to this event and want to make the free tree offer accessible to as many people as possible. To spread awareness about how the invasive Callery (Bradford) pear tree (Pyrus calleryana) causes harm to economics and environment, the Missouri Invasive Plant Council, Forest ReLeaf, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Missouri Community Forestry Council are hosting their second Callery Pear Buy-back in Columbia. Participants are invited to cut down their Callery pear tree and submit a photo of it to the Missouri Invasive Plant Council. Forest ReLeaf and Forrest Keeling Nurseries are donating the native/non-invasive trees to replace the invasive Callery pear. The offer is limited to one native tree per photo proof of one cut-down Callery pear. When you register, select only one tree.At checkout, you will be given a link to a separate web page to submit your photo. Participants are invited to pick up their trees from the MDC Central Regional Office at 3500 East Gans Road from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more about the Buy-back and the problems with Callery pear trees here.
