WINCHESTER, CA — A motorcyclist who was struck and killed by a big rig Wednesday on state Route 79 in Winchester has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau. Kendal Hornback, 54, of Hemet died at the crash scene in the 26000 block of Winchester Road (SR-79) at 1:33 p.m., according to a coroner's report released Thursday. The crash was reported at about 1:20 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist, later identified as Hornback, hit the back of a vehicle before swerving into the opposing side of the two-lane thoroughfare and into the path of a southbound big rig, the CHP reported. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the trucker escaped injury. The wreckage blocked both sides of the highway. A Sigalert was issued for the thoroughfare after authorities shuttered the roadway from Stetson Avenue north to state Route 74.
