Pine House Edible Gardens is an Oakland, CA based landscape design/build + garden maintenance firm that specializes in creating and caring for visually inspiring, food-forward, culturally grounded gardens and productive outdoor spaces. Our projects range from high-end modern to historic residential commissions, large and small. We are a small, growing team of motivated designers, architects and professional urban farmers, florists, beekeepers and jam-makers providing thoughtful design and organic garden care to our clients throughout the greater SF Bay Area. We are seeking an experienced residential garden designer or landscape architect for part or full-time employment who is committed to upholding the above social equity values in our workplace. The landscape designer/architect will work independently and alongside our small design team to lead and support with the design and installation of our innovative, integrated edible and ornamental landscapes. RESPONSIBILITIES Workdays are weekdays, flexible between 9 and 5pm, approximately 35-40 hours per week. 1. Support senior designers in collaborative design projects and drafting. 2. Design execution from concept to construction. Schematic design, concept design and project administration, including preparing project budgets. 3. Create planting plans and source plants. 4. Prepare presentations for design review (either hand drawn or CAD). 5. Construction project management: Conduct on-site observations and punch-lists before, during and after construction 6. Research products, plants and construction methods related to projects. 7. Analyze and interpret environmental reports and land condition surveys, to evaluate drainage, topography, etc. 8. Assist Project Architects, Project Designers and Project Managers in the execution of specific assignments. 9. Communicate regularly with clients, design team and contractors to update on all stages of project progress. EXPERIENCE 1. Undergraduate or graduate degree in Landscape Architecture. Landscape Architecture license a plus. 2. Or 3-5 years experience working in landscape architecture/landscape design with a firm or as a solo designer. 3. Experience with AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks, Sketchup, Adobe Suite. 4. Strong graphic and design sketch skills (digital or hand drawn, as needed). 5. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Clear communication skills are very important at Pine House. 6. Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects simultaneously. 7. Curious and open minded to learn and assume increased responsibilities 8. Self-sufficient and able to bring a design project from start to completion.
