Gill/Consumer Reports Trader Joe's said Thursday it was recalling 12-ounce packages of Crunchy Slaw with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing after it was notified by the makers of the salad dressing that it could contain hard plastic. The recall affects products at Trader Joe's in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. No injuries have been reported. The Department of Agriculture also issued a public health alert. Recalled products were produced on 3/03/22, 3/04/22, 3/05/22, and 3/06/22, and bear the establishment number "P-6247" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Products are also marked with an SKU# 94988 and "use by" dates of 03/09/22 through 03/12/22. Your Herbs and Spices Might Contain Arsenic, Cadmium, and Lead "Plastic, along with metal and rubber, can get into food during the manufacturing process," says James E. Rogers, PhD, director of food safety at Consumer Reports. "That's because the ingredients and products can be moved around during production on belts and machinery, and sometimes pieces can break off and get in the food." You can return the recalled item to Trader Joe's for a full refund, the company said in a statement, or just throw it away. Identifying products and services, especially in healthcare, that are safe, effective, and affordable—and highlighting those that aren't—is my top concern. Got a tip?
