Join Family Futures in partnership with Grand Valley State University for an event aimed to provide tools to promote resilience. Descriptions of Sessions: Keynote: Understanding Trauma and Building Resilience in our Helping Professions, Gwenden Dueker, Ph.D. The 2-hour presentation will: Introduce the topic of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how ACEs impact brain development. Give a brief overview of ACE epidemiology (frequency and related outcomes in United States) Provide an overview of a multi-level model of resilience Address issues of secondary trauma and compassion fatigue Provide evidence-based strategies for building resilience among helping professionals and their organizations The keynote address is approved for 2 hours of Continuing Education (CE) units in the following disciplines: Social Work CEs: Grand Valley State University School of Social Work, an accredited social work education program, is authorized by Administrative Rule 338.2965 to award Michigan social work continuing education contact hours. If interested in receiving SWCE, please enter your license number when prompted during registration. Education CEUs: Approved for State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs). Approval #: 20221058. If interested in receiving SCECHs, please enter your PIC number when prompted during registration. Nursing CEUs: Pending. If interested in earning nursing CEUs, please indicate that when prompted during registration. You will receive an email with further details needed once CEUs have been approved. Breakout Sessions: Community Panel: This session will provide the opportunity to hear local organizations in our community discuss their efforts to use a trauma-informed lens and incorporate resilience practices into their work. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and brainstorm ideas for their organizations or future practice. Resilience Practices Mash-Up 1: This session will review research about PACEs (Positive and Compensatory Experiences) and movement practices (e.g., Yoga & dance) associated with resilience as well as a chance to engage in some movement practice. Resilience Practices Mash-Up 2: This session will review research linking narrative writing and mindfulness to resilience and give participants chances to actually practice both. Trauma, Resilience & Biology: A Deep Dive: This session will be an in-depth description of how various body processes (e.g., epigenetics, neurodevelopment) are impacted by experiences of trauma and resilience practices. Oppression is Trauma, Trauma is Oppression: This session will examine resilience using an anti-racist lens with a focus on ways to foster resilience while addressing the challenges of equity, justice, power, and entrenched structures of economic oppression. Additional information: - Tickets are non-refundable, but can be transferred to another person if you are unable to attend. The lot will be monitored, so please show ticket to attendant upon arrival. You will be given a paper parking pass.
