Description
STAMFORD, CT — A family dog was killed and two firefighters suffered minor injuries during a fire at a multi-family home on Cove Road Sunday night, according to the Stamford Fire Department.
Around 10:43 p.m., firefighters were called to 295 Cove Road on a report of a structure fire. The first-arriving fire companies from the East Side and Central fire stations found smoke and fire visible from the front and rear of duplex-style residential building.
"Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the unit of origin and prevent fire spread and damage to the adjacent residence. The unit of fire origin sustained signficant fire damage on both levels and attic of the structure," the SFD said in a news release.
A family dog was found by firefighters during their search of the residence, the fire department said, but the dog had already succumbed to the smoke and heat.
Two firefighters were evaluated and treated at the scene by Stamford Emergency Medical Services for minor injuries, the department noted. The firefighters were not transported to the hospital and returned back to duty following the fire.
Overall, 30 personnel responded to the fire, according to the SFD.
The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The Stamford Police Department, SEMS, Stamford Animal Control and the Red Cross provided assistance at the scene.
