DARLINGTON, MD — A fire in Darlington broke out Sunday night, displacing four people, according to officials. The owner of the home in the 4000 block of Conowingo Road discovered the blaze at 6:53 p.m, the fire marshal reported. About 35 firefighters, led by the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company, brought the blaze under control in 15 minutes, officials said. The fire started in the bathroom ceiling of the single-story manufactured home, the fire marshal reported, attributing the cause to an electrical or mechanical failure in the bathroom exhaust fan. Extensive smoke and water damage was reported throughout the home, although the fire was contained to the ceiling and roof, the fire marshal said. Investigators estimated there was $30,000 in structural damage, while $30,000 worth of items inside the home were also lost. Two adults and two children were displaced, officials said. Harford County Disaster Assistance personnel are helping the family, according to the fire marshal.
